About the Retreat

The Creative Capital Artist Retreat is a four day event for invited grantees and arts professionals. The 2009 Retreat will occur July 23- 26 at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. 2009 grantees should plan on coming on July 21st to attend Professional Development Program workshops for new grantees.

The Creative Capital Artist Retreat is devised to foster a sense of community, open new doors and create opportunities for attendees. It is the principal way Creative Capital works to build our network, facilitate relationships and foster creative dialogue.  The event brings together nearly 250 people – artists, arts professionals, producers, presenters, and curators – in a forum to learn about new projects and share ideas.  During the retreat, artists present their funded projects, make connections to other artists and consult with arts professionals to help advance their careers. In turn, arts professionals are exposed to over 80 new projects across the funded disciplines, which include emerging fields, film/video, innovative literature, performing and visual arts.

Creative Capital’s unique approach to arts philanthropy draws on venture capital concepts and integrates grants, counsel and career development services to support adventurous projects. In its first decade, Creative Capital has committed more than $14 million in financial support and services to 324 projects representing 411 artists.
